English has always played a large role in my life. It has been a source of inspiration for me in my darkest times during my abusive childhood, it has welcomed me into its world of curiosity and wonder through its incredible structure of arranging words and organizing them into exciting formats, and it has given me hope in a world of desolation. In fact, it is the ideas English can display that can captivate readers into worlds of creativity and wonder that may not be otherwise explored. It is English that gives me hope when I feel lost, broken and afraid of the world and its despair of chaotic individuals who scare and endanger me, as it allows me to escape into a world of my own creation. A world that could not exist if not for the curiosity and wonder of my mind that has allowed me to turn my bad experiences into interesting and captivating characters for my stories.
Furthermore, this is also a portion of what I have done to prepare for this intended major of study. I have created stories, developed characters, and am constantly curious and wishfully-optimistic in my endeavors, for I believe that if the world presents a darkened appearance, it may be time to put on a coat of light. Hence, I believe English would help me represent the fearful and misrepresented individuals striving for a sense of purpose and belonging in an ever-appearing dismal world.
Whether it was through the honor of one of my college English professors requesting to use one of my papers as a template for her future students, the kind words of my classmates who encouraged me to create my own blog and other sources of written material, or my family members who inspired me to concoct my own stories, I believe I am prepared to succeed in upper-division courses because of the humbling opportunities I have been given to discover myself and my passions.
